Enthused over prize of 8.12 lak for Indian by Facebook, keen participation for De-bugging
Amritsar Mar. 13 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Curtains were raised on the inaugural edition of the two-day ‘3rd National Techno-Cultural festival- ‘Udaan-2015’ that fuses technology and data to emerge with new ideas was held at the premises of Global Institutes today. Mr Harcharan Singh Zonal Manager, Punjab and Sind Bank, inaugurated the fest as Chief Guest with the traditional lighting of lamps. The festival is one of the largest Tech- Cultural events organized by the Institute annually in the region.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Harcharan Singh exhorted students as techno experts to use their expertise to innovate new technology for making life easier and more meaningful for humanity. He stated that it is the brightest students who attempt to take up technology and management skills; therefore they must put their knowledge to practical use. “Merely creating something is incomplete without understanding its strengths and drawbacks and making an honest assessment.”
Satinder Bir Singh, District Education Officer as guest of honor inspired students to harness technological advancements for positive impact on the lives of people. On the occasion, Chairman Global institute and Dr BS Chandi and Vice chairman Dr Akashdeep Singh announced the setting up of ‘Incubation Cell’ by the Global Institutes to innovate technological products for the benefit of society. About 450 students from 40 country wide colleges including local Khalsa College, Hindu Sabha College, Guru Nanak Dev University, Chandigarh group of college , Landran, KC Engineering College , Nawanshaher; Aman Bhalla Institute, Pathankot; Rayat College of Engineering and Technology, Kharar; Beant College, Gurdaspur and others competed in 39 events organized by host institute.
Interestingly, a number of students in computer studies participated in a Programming Event called – ‘Bug Buster’ (Debugging). They were enthused by an Indian youth Arul Kumar who was honored with a reward of Rs 8.12 lakhs by FaceBook for finding a flaw in the famed social networking site. In a competition students created designs in a software on the topics of Festivals of India, Seasons of India and seven wonders.
Students debated on raging topics of – How online buying on sites like Amazon/Flipcart was effecting reatime retail sectors and Are robots practical to use in the army? In competition on advertisement and logo designs students created commercials ranging from automobilies to house hold appliances and logos of online gaming.
Spot creativity was tested in extempore speech on thought-provoking contemporary topics –Newspapers reading, ban on mobiles in college, dress code for colleges. Essays were penned on advantages and disadvantages of social networking sites .
The cultural side threw up solo and group dance, song and choreography in cultural forms of folk, western, Hindi and Punjabi besides fashion show, nukkad natak street play, creative music scores, skit encouraging mother tongue competition on Punjabi poetry, Roadies, rangoli competitions, paper dance almost lost skill of soap carving, collage, clay modeling , Mehandi art, Hair style and make up, painting and enacting
However Live Project Exhibition took the limelight where fuel efficient as well as alternate fuel run Formula cars zoomed with combat robots and Quad copters or Drones.
