
Amritsar, August 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – As many as 80 N.S.S. volunteers of Guru Nanak Dev University visited Ranain village on Indo-Pak borders which has been adopted by the University officially under Prime Minister ‘Adarsh Gram Yojna’. This visit was as a part of ongoing ‘15 Day Swatchh Bharat Pakhwadda’ being organised on Guru Nanak Dev University Campus. This Pakhwadda would be concluded on August 15.
During the visit volunteers taught students of Government Elementary and Middle School at Ranian village and spread awareness about the importance of health and hygiene especially to adolescent female students who often face such problems in the school. Many students wanted to go to University for pursuing their careers after completion of their 10+2. The volunteers observed that due to many limitations, the students of the Government Middle School Ranian were keen to learn more about higher studies. The vulunteers decided to organize more visits and camps to this village to help the students to guide them about their future.
On this occasion, students and many parents wanted to open education institutes and health services for the upliftment of area of this border belt. Volunteers also visited ‘Model Aanganwadi Kendra’ of the village. Sarpanch Kehar Singh joined by Rajwinder Kaur, a female teacher in the Elementary school thanked the entire team from the University and promised to offer all help in future too so as to make the ‘Prime Minister Adarsh Gram Yojna’ a huge success and also helped NSS volunteers in tree plantation exercise in both the schools and surrounding areas.
N.S.S. volunteers accompanied with Prof. H.S. Gujral, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Harkirandeep Kaur, Pishora Singh and Jagjit Kaur, cleaned several streets in the village and shared the benefits of avoiding use of plastics and open sanitation facilities. They were made aware about programmes launched by government for encouraging construction of toilets in villages with government help. Students and villager made requests to visit their village again and they were given assurance by Prof. H.S. Gujral that it is their duty to visit them again and again as ‘Community Out-Reach / Extension Programmes’ have always received unstinted support from Prof. (Dr.) A.S. Brar, Vice Chancellor of the University.
