Amritsar, November 3 (Punjab Post Bureau)- DAV Public School Lawrence Road observed 50th Anniversary of Punjab Day with full zeal and fervour. To commemorate the history and struggle of Punjab and its heroes, the students of the school staged a special programme that echoed with Punjabi folk songs and songs narrating the valour of Punjab. The students informed the audience about the rich history of the day and remembered the great warriors and freedom fighters from Maharaja Ranjit Singh to Bhagat Singh with reverence. The School also observed the day as ‘No Tobacco Day’ under the directions of State Government to spread awareness against smoking and tobacco chewing. On this occasion, Dr. Naresh Chawla, District TB Officer , Punjab Govt, Chest Physician with a vast experience addressed the students and informed them about the harmful effects of smoking and tobacco chewing. He advised the students to stay away from the temptation of smoking and also make people aware about the deadly effects it has on life. The students of the school also participated in a Poster – Making Competition organised by the TB – department , Punjab Govt, on the occasion of 2nd Punjab State Anti – Tobacco Day , under the theme – Choose Life , Not Tobacco ! The winners of same are as follows : Nupur Nayyar and Vrinda Tayal of Std X bagged First Prize , Kavya Bhagat of Std X and Jaishree Handa of Std IX bagged Second Prize and Subhagi Arora and Tusheen Narang of Std X bagged Third Prize . The Appreciation prize was won by Parinita Mohindru , Tanmay of Std IX and Bhavya Pahwa of Std X . In the end the students raised their voice to save the rich Punjabi language and culture. They took a pledge to saveguard the Punjabi culture amidst westernisation and stay away from smoking and Drugs and make Punjab a prosperous state.
Regional Director , Punjab Zone – A , Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school , Dr. Rajesh Kumar , Principal DAV College , Hathi Gate , Amritsar sent their best wishes to the students on this occasion. They said that Punjabi Literature has so much to offer, guide and inspire the youth of today. They also appreciated the students to stand for a just cause and fight against tobacco use. Dr. Neera Sharma , Principal of the school, thanked Dr. Naresh Chawla for his valuable address. She advised the students to tread on the right path and utilise their ingenuity to make the state a developed state in all facets.
