
Amritsar, October 29 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Asserting that the new technology can be an additional tool in imparting education, Chandigarh University vice chancellor Dr. RS Bawa today said that despite its relevance technology can never be the substitute to the teacher. He said teacher’s interaction with the students and one to one exchange of ideas is more important as he stressed on `character education’ to be made mandatory in the educational institutions.
Dr. Bawa was delivering his speech to the students at Khalsa College of Education (KCE) campus on the subject of `state of higher education in the country’. He said computers will never replace the teacher though the new electronics devices proved to be the aids in the teaching. “Even in the online imparting of instructions which is gaining popularity world over, teachers’ interaction with the students on-line is required to clear the doubts and query of the students.
Khalsa University vice chancellor Dr SS Chahal also expressed his views on the framing of curriculums by involving the students, making optimum use of the computers and other aids in teaching and value-based education. “Research and innovations are must and teachers must encourage this amongst students to make higher education more relevant to the requirement of industry’’, said Dr. Chahal. He also endorsed Dr.Bawa’s emphasis on imminent changes required at three stages including what to teach, whom to teach and innovative techniques of teaching.
The VC’s were earlier welcomed at the campus by Registrar Dr. JS Dhillon who said the students were enriched to have an experienced educationist and academician in Dr. Bawa to share the futuristic trends in the imparting of instruction at all levels. Prof. Harpreet Kaur, Prof. Maninder Kaur, DS Rataul, Prof.Deepika Kohli and other faculty members and students were present.
