Amritsar, Sept. 20 (Punjab Post Bureau) – As a major initiative towards green environment and also to reduce the financial burden, Guru Nanak Dev University approached Solar Energy Corporation of India for installation of Rooftop Solar Energy Plant, for which University has been allocated a Rooftop Solar Energy Plant of 3 Mega Watt capacity under Government of India’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu said that the University will provide space and will give access to the rooftops of the buildings inside the University Campus for the installation of Solar Panels. He said that the Solar Energy Corporation of India has allocated the installation operation & maintenance work to M/s. Azur Power Rooftop One Pvt. Limited, Delhi.They will implement this project for a period of 25 years, free of cost. In return The University will get solar electricity at very subsidized rate of Rs. 3.32 per Unit, he added. He said that as per calculations for a 3 MW Solar Plant approximate saving is INR 30,000 per day amounting to Rs. 1.08 Crores per year. This Solar Plant will be directly connected to the Power Grid which will help in feeding the power grid with excess amount of Solar Electricity produced by the Solar Plant after internal consumption. This Solar Plant will also help in continuous / uninterrupted power supply to the Campus during peak load period of summer which would be a great relief to the students/researchers of the University.
