Colourful Musical Bonanza at 9th Amritsar International Folk Festival
Amritsar, February 4 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The music and dance troupe from Mexico today enthralled audience
with their scintillating performances during the 9th Amritsar International Folk Festival held at Khalsa College of Education (KCE) here today. They rocked the stage with their native musical presentations as the festival witnessed a fusion of Mexico and Punjabi folklore, depicting cohesion of two unique cultures.
The dramatic presentations reached crescendo when the dancers from South American country and College students clad in their traditional dresses took stage to storm together as the audience witnessed a rare and magical spectacle of music frenzy. The festival organized by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) in collaboration with Punjab Cultural Promotion Council (PCPC).
The group Espiritu Mexicano, led by their director Arturo Javier Salazar Martinez, performed their traditional dances as they took to the stage with full enthusiasm and won the heart with the foot-tapping melodious singing. Apart from the music, the theatrical presentation by them touched the nerves as they gave folk presentations of their native traditions.
Punjabi pop singer and Khalsa College alumni Lakhwinder Singh Wadali was present when the artists later intermingled with the students and performed Punjabi folklore together. The Khalsa students also exhibited the Punjabi Bhangra and Gidda during the festival and an exhibition of Punjab art was main attraction of the event.
Chief Guest at the function KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who earlier welcomed the guest artists said the festival was an opportunity for the students to share each other culture and experiences to forge international cooperation and friendship. He said it always their endeavour arrange such cultural exchange programs.
Guest of Honour Bhupinder Singh, DIG, Border Security Force, said such inter-cultural interactions provide opportunities to understand diverse cultures and traditions, which is part of the education today. Principal Dr. Harpreet Kaur said they were proud to host such an international event.
PCPC head Dr. Davinder Singh Chhina said that it was the 9th festival in the series and the motive behind the events is to promote multiculturalism and international cooperation through the exchange of artists. He said Mexican group included artists Erika Arlette Valerio Patino, Ana Patricia Martinez Alarcon, Itza Areli Garcia Martinez, Arturo Javier Salazar Martinez, Maria Eugenia Castelan Quiroz, Uriel Rodriguez Hernandez, Mitzi Valeria Silva Cortes, Josue Zuniga Cedillo, Celia Yazmin Urban Sanchez, Antonio Urban Torres Musician/Manager, Valeria Solano Hernandez, Marcos Michel Luna Galvan, Karina Monserrat Urban Cadena and Luis Enrique Herrera Cruz.
He said the festival was dedicated to 128th year of inception of historic Khalsa College, Amritsar. KCGC office bearers, Principals of various Khalsa institutions were present during the program. Khalsa Heritage Awards were also bestowed upon Pop singer Lakhwinder Singh Wadali, PPS officer Jasdeep Singh Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Simranjit Singh Khalsa, Col (Rtd) HS Grover, Kulbir Singh Brar, Tejinder Singh Khalsa, Late Engr. JS Gill and Gurinder Singh Mehrok.
