National Seminar on “Yug Drushta and Yug Surashta” in BBK DAV College for Women

Amritsar, 29 March ( Punjab Post Bureau)-  A One Day National Seminar on ‘Yug Drushta and Yug Surashta–Swami Dayanand’ was organized in BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, on 29^th April, 2014. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra whole heartedly welcomed all the guests and also revealed her regards for Swani Dayanand Ji. The purpose of the seminar was to bring forward the high life style and teachings of Swami Ji. Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra thus talked about the inspiration and the alterations brought by Swami Ji. She also told how the plight of women was improved by the efforts done by Swami ji. Swami Dayanand Chair has been established in BBK DAV College for Women. A grant of Rupees 29 Lac has also been provided to the college. In the very First Session, Dr. Swatantar Kumar, (Director General, S.S.G.I. Badhani, Pathankot and former Vice Chancellor Gurukul, Kangri, Haridwar) put light on the significance of Vedas, Swami ji’s ideology and moral values. He also discussed Gurukul and told how discipline taught there. Prof. Harminder Singh Bedi (the famous critic, writer and former Deen Languages and H.O.D. of Hindi G.N.D.U, Amritsar) also brought forward the unique personality of Swami Dayanand. Prof. Bedi even gave information about the rare journals of Swami Dayanand kept in the Public Library, Lahore. He also told how Bhagat Singh was influenced by the Arya Samaj. In the beginning of the Second Session, Dr. Madhu Sandhu (Former Head of Hindi Deptt. G.N.D.U, Amritsar and Hindi writer) focused on the two great heroes of the 19^th Century Swami Dayanand Ji and Swami Vivekanand Ji. Dr. Sandhu told that they both believed in humanity and always followed logic in life. Both heroes brought a sort of revolution not in their own country but also in abroad. Dr. Hira Lal Kandhari (Chief, Arya Samaj, Katra Safaid, Amritsar,) also expressed his views on the contribution of Swami Dayanand Ji. How Swaniji criticized child marriage and how he favoured widow marriage. By criticizing the evils of the society, Swaniji brought prosperity in the society.

Towards the end of the seminar, Dr. Sudha Jitendra, Chief Hindi Department Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, discussed the teachings and lessons of Swami Dayanand Ji. How Swami Ji contributed endlessly for the Arya Samaj. She also told how she herself was greatly inspired by the Arya Samaj. Swami Suryadev Ji. too was there to further highlight the life of Swami Dayanand Ji. Acharya Suryadev Ji motivated our students to follow the path of Dayanand. Finally, Dr. (Mrs.) Shelly Jaggi (Prof. Hindi Deptt) read out the report on the seminar and Swami Dayanand Study Centre.  Thanks to Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Karma, Dr. Anita Narindra, Dr. Anu Khanna, Mrs. Renu Vashishth and Dr. Saroj Bala who successfully organized the seminar. To a great extent, the seminar motivated to re-establish a society replete of moral values and cultural heritage.
