AIM-SIRIUS Deep Technology Learning Innovation Programme concludes in Sochi (Russia)

Amritsar Mentor-Student Innovator Duo return with best practices of Research

Amritsar, Dec 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Dr. Resham Sharma (PGT Biology & ATL in Charge) & Mr. Rachit Aggarwal PPNJ1712201907(Class XI- Science student) of DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar have successfully completed the second phase of NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and Russia’s SIRIUS Deep Technology Learning and Innovation Programme 2019 in Sochi & have returned back with best practices of contemporary innovation and entrepreneurship (Diploma- Certification).

Dr. Resham co-supervised two research projects encompassing bio-antioxidant accumulation in cold-stressed micro-algal species & isolation of therapeutic proteins from r-DNA transformed E.coli through novel methods with fellow Russian mentors from Moscow State University & BioCad under the direction ‘Biotechnology & Genetic Research’. Together the Indo- Russian mentors designed, deliberated and guided a team of 10 gifted learner students from India & Russia. Similarly Mr. Rachit with his team mates & Russian mentors under the direction of ‘Drones and Robotics’, created an automated dual robot system, which, while collecting tea leaves using machine vision algorithms, gets rid of low-quality leaves and shoots, hence improving the quality of the collected tea products.

It’s noteworthy that Dr. Resham and Mr. Rachit were the only teacher-student duo selected together amongst 5 teachers and 25 students across India in this prestigious eight-day project oriented educational program from 28 November to 8 December 2019. The teams got to showcase their innovations & research to President Putin of The Russian Federation and earned high praise for working on challenge areas common to both countries.

They were hosted at the Indian Embassy & had a detailed interaction with H.E. Dr. DB Venkatesh Varma, the Indian Ambassador to Russia at Moscow for the same. The Indian Ambassador appreciated Dr. Resham for her educational insights & hands-on approach for promoting biology & STEAM & expressed happiness for students like Rachit who develop practical skills and innovate for the community, which is of immense value over theoretical knowledge.

After returning to India, the Indian Student-Teacher Delegation interacted and shared their experiences with higher officials including Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog- Dr Rajiv Kumar, CEO NITI Aayog- Amitabh Kant, MHLC Member AIM, Dr Vijay Chauthaiwale, Mission Director, AIM- Dr. Ramanan and others.

Expressing her elation for this glorious achievement, Dr. Neera Sharma (Principal) lauded the efforts put in by teacher-student team and blessed them for more successful future endeavors. Arya Rattan Shri Dr. Punam Suri ji (President, DAV CMC) praised Dr. Resham and expressed other teachers to follow her example. Dr. J.P Shoor (Director, PS I & aided schools, DAV) CMS), Dr. Neelam Kamra (Regional Officer), Dr. Rajesh Kumar (Manager & Principal DAV College) expressed their extreme happiness for this achievement and it’s noteworthy that Dr. Resham is a proud DAV alumni and continues to bring laurels by guiding the students now.
