How Nangal Lubana village turns covid tide – more than 90% vaccination in age group of 45 years and above

95 year old Kartar Kaur and Karam Kaur (91) also get themselves vaccinated

Kapurthala, April 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Nangal Lubana village in bholath sub division , which suffered heavy losses during the first corona wave , has turned its back during second wave with more than above 90% vaccination of 45 years and above age group besides registering below 1% positivity rate during second wave.

            The positivity rate of the village was 70 per cent during the first wave which has come down to less than 1% during the second wave after continuous testing and vaccination. At present no one from Nangal Lubana village is in hospital or home isolation.

            At the beginning of Corona, the village with 5234 population, teams of the health department had to face great difficulty for testing in the village due to hesitation of people which increases the positivity rate to 70%.

            Out of the total 835 positive cases in the entire Bholath sub-division, 83 were from Nangal Lubana alone, which was 10 per cent of the entire sub-division. During this deadly period 4 person of the village also lost their lives which shook the entire village.

            The villagers and the health department took it as a challenge to get out of this epidemic and with the help of the villagers, SMO Dr. Kiranpreet Sekhon, Asha workers and ANMs conduct door to door survey to know the exact number of people above 45 years of age and to vaccinate them.

Out of the total population, the number of people above 45 years of age was 1334 who were targets for vaccination as they falls under high risk category. With great support from the villagers, 9 special camps have been organised to vaccinate 1213 people of above 45 years of age, which is 90.92 per cent of this age group.

Dr. Sekhon said that before vaccination, every person of the village undergoes RAT which provides the true picture of the village. People in this age group who are not vaccinated are either living abroad or suffering from a serious illness.

            Kartar Kaur (95) who was vaccinated alongwith Karam Kaur (91) said that the epidemic had shaken the village and the villagers had learned a lesson from it. They said that they herself had come forward to have the covid shots which had helped the village to recover from the epidemic. Karam Kaur said she felt safe after the vaccination besides having the sigh of relief that the village have overcome of this epidemic.

            Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Mrs. Deepti Uppal also applauded the villagers and health personnel and asked the rest of the villages to take inspiration from Nangal Lubana to help in curbing the Korna epidemic.
