International Ozone Day Celebrated

Amritsar, September 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University in collaboration with Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) celebrated the International Ozone Day. The program included intradepartmental ‘Slogan Writing’ and ‘Declamation’ competitions on the theme “Montreal Protocol – Keeping us, our food and vaccines cool”. The event was sponsored by Punjab Pollution Control Board.

           Prof. Saroj Arora from department highlighted the history, causes, effects and remedial measures for ozone layer depletion. Harbir Singh SEE from PPCB informed the audience about the measures which citizens should take to remediate the Ozone layer depletion.The Head of the Department Prof. Jatinder Kaur also highlighted the issue and inspired the students to take active role in environmental pollution mitigation measures.

           In Declamation competition Ms. Manjinder Kaur (M.Sc. Bot Sem-III), Tushar Sharma (B.Sc. Bot Sem-I) and Ms. Shivani Kanwar (M.Sc. Env Sci. Sem-I) won the first, second and third positions, respectively, while, Jasleen Kaur, Jasnoor Kaur and Pritankshi won consolation prizes. In Slogan writing competition Deeksha Devi (M.Sc. Bot Sem-III) won first prize while, Ms. Navrose Brar (M.Sc. Bot Sem-I) and Ms. Reecha (M.Sc. Env Sci. Sem-III) bagged the second and third positions respectively.

            Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal Prof. Renu Bhardwaj, Prof. Rajinder Kaur and Dr. Neha Handa from the department, and Harbir Singh (SEE), Kanwaljot Singh (Ex. En) and Mr. Jatinder Kumar (SDO) from PPCB acted as judges for the events. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. Sandip Singh, Faculty Advisor of Society of Botanical and Environmental Sciences. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Satwinderjeet Kaur.
