SGPC President strongly criticise govt’s discriminatory attitude
Amritsar, August 21 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Raising sharp question to governments about release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh political prisoners), Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said on Sunday that if decision can be taken to release rapists serving punishment in Bilkis Bano rape case of 2002 Gujarat atrocity, then why the Sikhs who served double punishment than life imprisonment cannot be released? SGPC President said the governments are adopting discriminatory policy.
“On one side, by adopting the sympathetic ground, the government is releasing convicts of heinous crime like rape, which is called as blot on society, while on the other side, Sikh prisoners are kept lodged in dungeons of jails for three decades”, said Advocate Dhami.
SGPC President Advocate Dhami called this discrimination as violation of Constitution of India as well as murder of human rights. He said such injustice and discrimination is not acceptable and the governments need serious consideration on this matter.
Advocate Dhami advised the Government of India to be sincere in adopting uniform policy for all and asked for the immediate release of Bandi Singhs.
Meanwhile, SGPC President also appealed to Bhai Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, who is lodged in Model Burail Jail at Chandigarh, to end his hunger strike. He said there is no place for a hunger strike in Sikh faith, therefore, so he should give up his stubbornness. He said SGPC is doing efforts and will continue to do in future also.
