Amritsar, Feb. (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of Fine Arts organized a 3 day UGC sponsored workshop “ART MEET – 2015” to provide a platform where budding artists got a chance to meet internationally acclaimed artists. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar, GNDU with lightening the lamp. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra gave her blessings and applauded the efforts of the departments to make the workshop a grand success. She said that such workshop are essential to give hands on training to the students so that they can be more focused towards their future. Dr. Neeta Mohindra, Head of Department welcomed the guests and told that this workshop is sponsored by UGC under CPE scheme. The aim of this meet is to bring the talent from all states under one roof so that the intellectual works can be exchanged. Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar, GNDU while addressing students said that Art plays a very important role in our life. It is a way to exhibit our emotions. He wished the college to be the college for excellence in future. Vibha Galhotra, resource person gave inaugural speech and shared that fun is the base of our practice and that is where she starts her work from. She expressed her opinion on comparison of new media & painting. She said that new media is a medium to express the work as the technology is growing. It is very important to invisible the change in art also. Technology & tradition both has to be blended to give a good piece of art. She also shared the work that inspired her.
Day one of the workshop had two interactive sessions with another eminent resource person Gogi Saroj Pal. She trained students on how to make simple, stylized paintings that have considerable impact. Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, LMC, gave vote of thanks and added that as the technology is growing vast so there is a need to make a blend of tradition & technology and this Art Meet would be a step in right direction. Nearly 30 students artists have come from JJ college of Arts, Mumbai, Shanit Niketan Kala Bhawan, Calcutta, Govt. College of Art, Chandigarh, Baroda college of Arts, Punjabi University, Lovely Professional University, HP University, Shimla, Kurukshetra University, Rohtak University, Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Punjab University to participate in the workshop. Mrs. Manjot Sandhu, Mrs. Renu Bhandari, Ms. Shaifali Johar, Mrs. Aditi Jain, Ms. Ramandeep, Mr. Shailender, Ms.Poonam, Mr. Naresh, Ms. Falguni, Ms. Sumedha and alumni of the department were present on the occasion.
