Star shooter gives the first shot on inauguration of Shooting Range

Amritsar, Oct. 15 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Ace Shooter 16-year old Madhur Arora, student of Delhi Public School Amritsar, fired the first shot with his feinwerkbau P-700 Universal rifle, inaugurating the shooting range, at school premises today. Madhur had lifted the ‘Champion of Champions’ trophy, also bagged a silver medal and was awarded Prize money of Rs 39,000 in the recently held “15th Punjab State Inter School Shooting Championship-2014” at Guru Nanak Dev University campus, organized by Amritsar Rifle Club. The six automatic lanes, shooting range built of international standard for 10-meter competitions was inaugurated in the presence of chief guest Mr Baljeet Singh Sethi, Former Vice President, Asian Shooting Federation; and guests of honor Mr. Avtar Singh Sethi, Sr. Vice President of National Rifle Association of India, Ms. Malaika Goel, a silver medalist shooter in recent Commonwealth Games from Ludhiana, Mr Akash Khandelwal, member school management and school principal Mrs Sangeeta Singh. Explaining about the shooting range, Mr Khandelwal said it had world class automatic lanes built by ‘sportzcraft’ where six-shooters can perform and practice simultaneously. Two types of events can be held on this type of shooting range –a) .177 peep sight Air Rifle and b) .177 pistol. Meantime, the North Zone –1 Inter-DPS football tournament was also flagged off by Manu Sood, HoD Sports, DAV College Jalandhar in school premises. The tournament saw the opening matches in which 16 teams from the Delhi Public Schools of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, U.P. and J & K participated. Participating teams in an impressive march-past gave the customary salute followed by the DPS school song. Football teams had arrived from Jalandhar, Pinjore, Jammu, Azad nagar, Gurdaspur, Barra, Srinagar, Amritsar, Jhakri, Ambala, Bhathinda, Rohtak, Khanna, Kathua, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Hisar, Katra and Chandigarh.
