Amritsar, 6 August (Pritam Singh) – A “Workshop for Ph.D./Post Doctoral Scholars on Basic Research Methodology and Research Ethics” was inaugurated here today at the Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 21 Research Scholars from Punjab and the neighbouring states are participating in it.
Prof. T.S. Banipal, Director Research of the University presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Banipal in his address highlighted the relevance of such workshops for the Research Scholars, which go a long way in honing their analytical skills in the pursuit of excellent research in all the disciplines. He said that they must have definitely studied Research Methodology during their course work, which is a prerequisite nowadays as per UGC norms, but Research Methodology has no well defined boundaries. There exists no single Research Methodology, which can be used indiscriminately in the diverse disciplines, he further said. The sharp compartmentalization of the disciplines is neither desirable nor feasible in the modern times, he opined. He exhorted them to work with devotion, dedication, discipline in order to produce the excellent research, which is of utmost importance for the advancement of any nation. Talking about the research ethics, he expressed his deep concern over the falling moral values even in academics. He concluded his address by making the participants aware of various anti-plagiarism softwares, which are playing a significant role in eradicating this “academic evil”.
Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Director welcomed the Chief Guest and the audience and expressed the hope that this Workshop would definitely enhance their expertise and hone their skills. The Academic Staff College has always been striving to meet the aspirations of the young research scholars and this is the second such Workshop of the current academic session, she added. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
