Batala, Aug. 26 (Narinder Singh Barnal) – Education is vital tool for the development of a nation, especially the economic development. There is no denying that the urban sector gets a number of facilities of education but the rural folk need more attention in this regard. Pt. Mohan Lal Ji, a multifaceted personality, shouldered the responsibility to promote women education in the backward sections. He disseminated his ideas of giving women education a new introduction and Pt. Mohan lal SD College for women, Gurdaspur is the result of the same. After his name the college is fulfilling his dreams in true spirit .Pt. Mohan Lal SD College for women, Gsp is making tremendous contribution in strengthening the female minds by inculcating spirit of education and awareness among them. The college has set landmark in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The college campus is resplendent with arboreal surroundings providing ambience of serenity i.e conducive to academics. With firm resolve and clear vision of Pt. Mohan Lal Ji , the institute which started with only 95 students, is imparting education to nearly 1600 students at Graduate and post Graduate level in various streams of Arts, Science, Commerce and IT. Diploma in Dress Designing, PGDCA, MA (Punjabi), M.Sc. (Comp Sc.) are running successfully at Post Graduate level. BA, B.Com (Reg), B.com (Prof.), BCA, B.Sc.(Med and Non Med), B.Sc (Economic), B.sc (Comp Sc) etc. courses are available in the institute.

Apparel Designing, IT, Cosmetology, Basic Cooking and catering Management, Functional English, Banking & Insurance and Bio-Technology; the students are availing the facilities of Home Sci. Labs, highly modernized cosmetology labs, Aesthetically designed Apparel Designing labs, Psychology labs, Bio Technology labs, Fashion Designing labs, Cutting & Tailoring labs, Edifice Science Labs, Modern Computer labs with 150 computers.
Music room, Fine Arts Room, Multimedia Seminar Hall and Student centre are the centres of attraction of the Institute. Store house of knowledge ‘Library’ is adding mental growth & knowledge of the students. The Institute is imparting education to +1 & +2 classes in Arts, Commerce, and Science & Computers. The college is making giant strides in all spheres under the stewardship of worthy members of management & principal Dr (Mrs.) Neelam Sethi, winning accolades & awards at different
National/International levels. It is due to the spirit of undoubting and relentless endeavors of the faculty and able stewardship of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Sethi that the university results of the institute have always been outstanding. In very recently declared results, Ms Tarandeep Kaur(MA Punjabi) Sem 3rd got 5th position in GNDU & second position in Gurdaspur District. Swati Mahajan (M.Sc Com.Sci) Sem 3rd secured 5th position in university and 1st in District, Kirinbir Kaur (M.Sc Com. Sci.) Sem 3rd secured 10th position and 2nd position in District. Kajal Mahajan of B.Com (Prof.) sem 1 bagged 4th in District. Neha Cheema B.sc (Med) Sem 1 secured 2nd position & Rabia B.Sc (Med) Sem 1 got 4th position in District. Rupali & Shelly Kelash of B.Sc( Non Med) Sem 1 both secured 6th position in District. Kiran Bhandari of B.Sc.(Non. Med) Sem 3rd bagged 11th position in District.
The incumbent principal Dr. (Mrs.)Neelam Sethi has been working heart and soul to accelerate the growth and development of the college. It is with her undoubting courage, irrepressible will and determination that the college is forging ahead not only in academics but sports and cultural activities also .The sportspersons of Basket Ball, Net Ball, Hand Ball, Volleyball, Judo, Gymnastics have brought laurels to the Ammeter by winning various championships; getting gold, silver ’bronze medals and cash prizes at different state and National levels.
The college’s cultural scenario is teemed with different amazing arrangements .Students of the college participate in large numbers in GNDU Youth Festival every year. It is pride mentioning here that the college is proud winner of ‘2nd overall Runner up trophy’ in Zonal Youth Festival organized by GNDU, Asr. The college students also participate in poetry, declamation contest, speech competition, Quiz etc with zeal and zest in various inter college competitions .
The Rotaract, a unit of Rotary International, is working with full vigour for past five years .The club got “Appreciation Award” from Rotary International Evanston, USA for its commendable services. The NSS unit comprising of 300 volunteers is also contributing remarkably in social service. It participates in various social welfare programmers and its service speaks of its zeal and commitment to social cause.
To enhance the personalities of faculty members, the college arranges Faculty Development Program in which eminent Educationists and renowned personalities are invited to deliver lectures. The institute has three storied marvelous building with all modern amenities .The institute offers Hostel accommodation for the outstation students .The hostel provides all facilities with an atmosphere conducive for studies .Door to Door transport facility is also arranged for the students coming from remote areas students with a passion for excellence in their future life look at this Institute with the hope of making a sea change in their lives.
