Workshop on Andragogical Practices organized at GNDU

Amritsar, July 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  Prof. Santosh Panda, STRIDE, IGNOU, New Delhi while delivering his Gndu1inaugural address in a one week workshop on Andragogical Practices under centre of Professional Development of Teacher Educators, School of Education, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) Scheme , MHRD organized at Department of Education of the Guru Nanak Dev University stressed that there is a dire need to orient the teachers to the andragogical practices to engage adult learners in developing higher-order thinking skills. He also reiterated that teachers should teach what they can practically do and put into action. The speaker also pointed out that we are teaching to earn a living but not how to live a peaceful and happy life. He highlighted that employability skills are as important in higher education as social and life skills. As many as 30 participants from various universities and colleges from all over India are participating in the workshop.

            Prof. Hardeep Singh, Dean Student Welfare was the chief guest of the valedictory the session congratulated the participants, he lauded the efforts of the School of Education in taking the initiative to orient the teachers towards the needs of learners in higher education. Prof. Singh encouraged the participants to infuse latest strategies in their teaching and to take their learners beyond the theoretical knowledge. Prof. Panda while addressing the participants made reference to the new education policy-2019. He categorically emphasized that a sense of quality in teaching needs attention.  He also stressed that we should revisit our ancient Gurukul system and tries to revive it in the present scenario. He also emphasized that the teaching-learning process should not be made complex rather teachers should have the ability to take students on their pathways. Higher education should enable the students to reflect in action and reflect on the action, as this can only lead to total quality management.

                 Prof. Amit Kauts Project Coordinator, School of Education while welcoming the guests and participants shared that  we need a paradigm shift from pedagogy to andragogy The purpose of this workshop is to link adult learning theory to instructional strategies to foster interactive the learning environment in the classroom. This workshop will equip the teacher educators and college teachers to effectively integrate pedagogical teaching learning strategies in their teaching. Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts, Head, Department of Education, oriented the teachers to the importance of facilitating student learning in higher education. She raised certain issues related to adult learning and how adult learners construct their knowledge in this digital age. Dr. Deepa also drew the attention of the participants to the fact that offering adult learners with meaningful experiences plays an important role in achieving the best learning outcomes. Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig, Director HRDC GNDU while thanking the guests and all the participants emphasized the importance of happiness while doing professional work as teachers.
