Amritsar, September 27 (Punjab Post Bureau) – In support of victims of devastating floods in Jammu and Kashmir the ‘Amritsar Sacred Heart Alumni’ (ASHA) an ex –students association cum NGO, today flagged off a truck load of relief material, collected under the aegis of ASHA from all over the world. President of ASHA Journalist Rashmi Talwar, as well as vice President Kiranjot Kaur a former SGPC secretary, Pooja Mehra Finance secretary Mona Mehra secretary and Mini Kapoor said the NGO was committed to support to flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
Pooja stated that ASHA president would be spot supervising relief distribution in Srinagar Kashmir to ensure that relief reaches the deprived and needy. Kiranjot Kaur stated that with the coordination of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee the relief material would safely reach Shaheed Bunga Gurdwara in Budgam near Srinagar from where distribution would be conducted by ASHA with the help of organizations including RBI Bank employees group, 3-R Initiatives and others.
ASHA president said–“ We gave an appeal on Facebook- a social networking site and aid flowed in from not only Amritsar but from all corners of the world in both cash and kind. Many of donors coordinated relief from various countries including Jaiti Gupta an American, coordinated relief from America and Canada while Rachna Kharbanda from Australia and Inder Talwar synchronized from United Kingdom. ASHA NGO sent 1100 Kg of rice, 600 fleece blankets, 168 Kg of Tea , 35 Kg of Woolen clothes and 20 Kg of soap. “People have been generous in donating, both in cash and kind, and have sent their prayers and good wishes to their Kashmiri brethren and prayed for granting them strength to bear the loss and an early recovery from this devastation ,” she added.
