Amritsar, February 16 (Punjab Post Bureau) – As per the directions of Dr. (Mrs.) Jasmeet Kaur Bawa Civil Surgeon Kapurthala checking drive carried out, with the team of Food Administration Kapurthala headed by Dr. Harjot Pal Singh Assistant Commissioner Food along with Satnam Singh Food Safety Officer.
The team inspected food business operators in the area of City Kapurthala and seized food samples: Milk, Dahi, Mustard Oil, Pulses, Bakery Product, Riceetc. These samples were seized on receipt of a complaint.
Food Wing also held a meeting with the karyana shop owners of Kapurthala City and apprised them of the recent instructions by Commissioner Food & Drug Administration Punjab. Businessmen were directed not to sale/stock Cooking Medium, Lite Ghee and the Like, the sale of which has been banned by the Commissioner Food & Drug Administration, Punjab Kahn Singh Pannu in the state of Punjab, recently.
These orders are issued by the worthy Commissioner in view of reports received from parts of the state that lite Ghee and cooking medium are being sold to general public/consumer in the guise of Desi Ghee. It is pertinent to mention here that cooking medium and lite ghee are products of vegetable fat, which is much cheaper. On the contrary, Desi Ghee is a altogether different product, derived exclusively & purely from Milk Fat and is priced at more than Rs. 400/- per Kg. No other product can be added to Desi Ghee, Desi Ghee has to be sold pure as a single entity. Vanaspati or any other kind of fat cannot be added to Desi Ghee.
As far as Refined Vegetable Oil are concerned, blending of Refined Oils is allowed only under label declaration and after obtaining Agmark Number from Agmark Issuing Authorities.
Food Businessmen were also directed not to sell Powdered Spices & Condiments except under packed conditions as there is apprehension of adulteration in these powdered items.
Sample seized today have been sent to State Food Laboratory Kharar for analysis-cum-report and on the receipt of report, legal action will be initiated against the violators.
This drive to curve the menace of adulteration will be continued in future also, so that the citizens get safe, pure and healthy food.
