CKD Institute of Management and Technology (CKDIMT) organized an interactive seminar on “Future Trends in Marketing”. The seminar was conducted by renowned marketing expert Dr. Gurvinder Shergill, a Senior Prof. from Massey University, New Zealand who shared his ideas and experiences with the students on this topical and emerging theme.
Dr. Shergill discussed changing market trends and also took up pertinent issues such as how consumers think and behave; how they react to the various media profiles and campaigns; and where they search for information on the products and services.
Living in the globalised world and the internet age, India could not live isolated and ignore new trends in the marketing sector, he said. The country, in his opinion, has a lot to learn before it can compete globally. “Take customer servicing. It is struggling to meet the global standards. Customer is far from being the king and the concept of product and quality has a long way to travel,” he observed.
Prof. Shergill suggested strategies, which companies should d
evelop and highlight to best meet consumers’ expectations. Besides, he also brought out the role of market research, internet, digital and social media while elaborating on future trends in marketing of products and services by companies.
On where the Punjab marketing sector was heading, the expert said, it was an area of concern. “Punjab yet has not even much developed industrial manufacturing and agro- processing, so saving its economy will require urgent attention from the government as well as the policy makers,” said the Kiwi expert.
Earlier, Dr. Shergill was welcomed by President CKD, S. Charnjit Singh Chadha; Member-in-Charge, Dr Baljinder Singh and Principal, Dr. H.S. Sandhu. In his presidential remarks, S. Charanjit Singh Chadha appreciated the efforts of Dr. Baljinder Singh and Dr. Sandhu for organizing such kind of academic initiatives for the stude
nts. He added that students would surely get benefit of Dr. Shergill’s experience and knowledge to be successful in their professional life. Prof. Ramandeep Kaur and other faculty members were also present on this occasion.
