Amritsar, October 2 (Punjab Post Bureau) –The ‘B’ Zone Zonal Youth Festival of Guru Nanak Dev University was inaugurated here today in the Dasmesh Auditorium of Guru Nanak Dev University with beat of Dhol & Bhangra. In the Bhanga Competition, Guru Nanak College Batala got first position, Sri Guru Angad Dev College, Khadur Sahib – second and Baba Ajay Singh Khalsa College Gurdasnangal was on third position. In the item, Onkar Singh was the first beds dancer and Mr. Jai Sharma was announced 2nd best dancer.
Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi Dean Student’s Welfare formally inaugurated this festival by lighting the lamps. While addressing the students, Prof. Bedi said that these youth festivals are integral part of student life and student should proud of our rich cultural heritage. He encouraged students to participate in such activities alongwith their studies.
The festival started with the competition of Bhangra. Student-artists from Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Tarn Taran are participating in the items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts. This festival will be concluded on October 03. The competitions are being organized simultaneously on different stages in the University Campus i.e. Dasmesh Auditorium Guru Nanak Bhawan Architecture Department and Conference Hall.
Dr. Amandeep Singh Incharge Youth Welfare of the University said that the items of Group Shabad/Bhajan, Group Song (Indian), Folk Orchestra were organized in the Dasmesh Auditorium. On the stage of Guru Nanak Bhawan, Classical Instrumental Percussion & Non-Percussion and Classical Vocal were organized. On the Architecture Department stage, Painting on the Spot, Cartooning, Collage, Poster Making, Clay Modeling, On the Spot Photography and Installation were organized and the quiz preliminary competitions were held at Conference Hall of the University.
He said that on October 02, Costume Parade, Mime, Mimicry, Skit, One Act Play will be held in Dasmesh Auditorium and Vaar Sining, Kawishri, Geet/Gazal, Folk Song competitions will be organized in the Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium. On the stage of Architecture Department, Rangoli, Phulkari, Mehndi and in the Conference hall, competitions of Poetical Symposium, Elocution and Debate will be organized.
On October 3, Western Vocal (Solo), Western Group Song, Western Instrumental Solo will be held at Guru Nanak Bhawan and General Dance and Gidha will be held followed by prize distribution function in the Dasmesh Auditorium of the University.
