Three Week Refresher Course in Hindi inaugurated at GNDU

Amritsar, June 14 (Punjab Post Bureau)- A “Three Week Refresher Course in Hindi” was inaugurated here today at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 32 University and College teachers from various nooks and corners of the country are participating in this Course.

Prof. (Retd.) H.C. Rajpal from Punjabi University Patiala and Prof. T.S. Banipal, Director Research of the Guru Nanak Dev University were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour respectively. Prof. Rajpal in his exhaustive inaugural address traced the various phases of the Hindi literature in the country.  Shedding the light on the contribution of major litterateurs in the various stages of the Hindi literature, he said that literature reflects the various changes taking place in the society. He touched on the various burning issues in the world of Hindi Literature in the modern times like Dalit literature, depiction of women in the literature, influence of various -isms on the literature.

Prof. T.S. Banipal exhorted the teacher participants to make a virtue out of the necessity and not to link these courses only with the Career Advancement Scheme. Such opportunities to expand one’s expertise, competence, knowledge should not go in vain, he opined. Prof. Sudha Jitender, Head, Deptt. of Hindi and the Course Coordinator apprised the participants with the thrust area of the course, which she defined as “Ideology of Modern Hindi Literature”. She also talked about the challenges being faced by the language and literature in the current era of information and technology, globalization, free market economy and increasing consumerism.

Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-HRDC in his welcome address enlightened the participants about the aims and objectives of these courses, which, in his view, go a long way not only broadening the subject knowledge of the teachers, but also provide an opportunity to the teacher participants from the various socio-linguistic, geographical, cultural backgrounds to come together on a single platform. Earlier, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour were accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Prof. Sudha Jitender and Dr. Mohan Kumar. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
