Amritsar, Dec. 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The meeting of the Academic Advisory Committee of the National Resource Centre (NRC) of Guru Nanak Dev University was presided over by Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor of the University. The Co-ordinator of the Centre Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs presented the Agenda. Renowned academicians in the domain of material sciences Prof. H. Surya Prakash Rao, Sharda University; Prof. Puspendu Kumar Das, IISC, Bangalore; Dr. Vimal Rarh, Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Principal, SGTB Khalsa College, Delhi; Deans and Heads of the participating departments pertaining to the various Faculties of Sciences, Life Sciences and Engineering & Technology of the University attended it. It is pertinent to mention here that the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar is one of the few selected Universities in the country, which has been selected for NRC by the MHRD, Govt. of India under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Training. The thrust areas of the courses offered by the NRC is ‘Advances in Chemistry and Physics of Materials’. The NRCs have been conceived with the aim of furthering the expertise, competence, knowledge of the teachers of higher education in the country through e-learning in consonance with the advancements in the field of information technology. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu in his presidential remarks lauded the endeavor of the NRC team, which has successfully managed to upload the modules through video lectures, e.contents as well as multiple choice questions. The dire need of the hour is to introduce such on line courses by NRCs allocated to different institutions.
Concluding his address, the Vice-Chancellor exhorted the teaching faculty to rise to the occasion and to adapt themselves to the fast changing advancements in the theme of NRC. Prof. Kamaljit Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and the Coordinator apprised the audience with the process of preparation of this maiden Refresher Course, which has been well received by the teachers across the country. It is only a humble beginning in the right direction, but in the times to come all of us need to get their act together for designing, preparing of the courses in other disciplines as well. The glimpses of the uploaded modules of the above-mentioned course were also displayed in the meeting. A number of fruitful suggestions were made by the members of the Committee. In the end, vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Adarsh Pal Vig Director of the Centre.
