Guru Nanak Dev University to host Spring Festival from March 14

Amritsar, March 9 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Guru Nanak Dev University is going to organize Spring Festival of Flowers, Plants and Rangoli from March 14 to 16 in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan premises. This festival is being organized by Department of Landscaping & Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences with the Sponsorship of Major Paramjit Singh Pammi S.M (Rtd).

            Dr. J.S Bilga Consultant Horticulture said that this event is being  organized under the guidelines  of  Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu  Vice- Chancellor  to create the awareness among masses in general and  students in particular about the importance of beauty of nature and clean environment around us.

            While giving details about the fest, Mr. Gurwinder Singh Landscape Officer said that in this festival the competitions are open for individuals, institutions, colleges and schools. He said that collection of pots and Rangoli entries will be done on March 14 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and on March 15 formal inauguration of exhibition will be held on 1:00 pm & will be open for public till 6:00 pm. Prize Distribution function will be held on March 16 at 3:30 pm. 

            Dr. J.S. Bilga said that different varieties of flowers like Aster Antirrhinum, Dahlia,  Marigold,  Pansy, Petunia, Stock Salvia and Seasonal & others will be displayed. In the category of Foliage /Ornamental plants, Aglaonema, Asparagus, Coleus Crotons, Dieffenbachia, Dracaena, Ferns, Ficus, Palms and Foliage Plants will be included in the festival. In Cacti and Succulents category, Cacti Grafted, Cacti Non-Grafted, Succulents etc and Bonsai &, Ornamental Plants will be exhibited. The Rangoli with flowers and Rangoli with artificial materials will be the important part of this festival. Apart from this a large number of stalls of nurseries, equipments of gardening, flower pots and stalls of higenic & organic eatables other decorative materials relating to gardening will be part of this event.

            The winners would be encouraged and awarded on the basis of judgment by experts on the third and final day of the show. All the arrangements for the exhibition have been completed and information has been sent to all educational institutes. All environment and flower lovers are invited to get full advantage during these three days to enjoy the beauty of nature.
