KCVAS celebrates ‘World Zoonoses Day’

Amritsar, July 15 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, (KCVAS) Amritsar, under the guidance of Dr. HK Verma Principal held an awareness campaign for the students of Khalsa College Girls Sr. Sec. School, Amritsar about major zoonotic diseases on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day.

Every year ‘World Zoonoses Day’ is celebrated to create awareness of zoonotic diseases and to honour French biologist, Louis Pasteur who administered the first dose of vaccine against the zoonotic disease rabies on July 6, 1885 and also discovered Pasteurization. Which is the common method used to make milk free of microorganisms. World Zoonoses Day is important for spreading awareness about zoonotic diseases, which can be naturally transmitted among animals to humans.

Dr. H.K Verma and Dr. Nitasha Sambyal interacted with students and made them aware about major zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, Rabies, and Parasitic Dermatitis, Trichinellosis that can be naturally transmitted from animals to humans and vice versa. They also informed about number of ways to prevent such zoonotic infections. Students from 11th and 12th classes participated in the event.

Dr. Verma appreciated the team of KCVAS for carrying out such an event for the benefit of the school students and stressed upon that always consume boiled milk, cooked meat, eggs and avoid taking raw milk, milk products egg and egg products as they can be harmful to the health. Further, the personnel hygiene along with proper hand wash will also help them to be disease free. Dr. S.B Bakshi Professor; Dr. Nitasha Sambyal Associate Professor; Dr. Simran; and Dr. Vijay Sharma Assistant Professors participated in the camp.

Puneet Kaur Nagpal Khalsa College Senior Secondary Girls School concluded the function and thanked the guests and participants for sparing their valuable time for this unique initiative.
