DPS’s lifts ‘Millennium Challenge -2014” Trophy on ‘Euthanasia’ debate Stands tops

Amritsar Aug. 23 (Punjab Post Bureau)- A team of Vandana Bhatia and Yubhav Seth of Delhi Public School won the “Millennium Challenge-2014” debate trophy. During this ‘Inter-School Power-Point Cum Debate Competition’ hosted by The Millennium School, the two confident debaters of DPS Vandana and Yubhav spoke against the right to die on the sensitive and burning topic of ‘Euthanasia – Whose Life is it Anyway’. Vandana Bhatia also won the ‘Outstanding Speaker Award’ at the debate. With 10 teams in the finals the DPS team put forward the point that ‘Euthanasia’ would give immense powers to doctors and dependants of critically and ‘appearing’ critically ill patients to make a decision on their lives. “The debate was inspired by the Supreme Court’s latest public appeal to debate on the vital issue of ‘Legalizing Passive Euthanasia’. This has triggered a nationwide debate on Active and Passive-Euthanasia” stated the School Principal Mrs Sangeeta Singh while heartily congratulating the two debaters for their success. Presenting their arguments, the students had stated that passive euthanasia should not be legalized as it might be misused by unscrupulous elements. Both their arguments and their power point presentation were adjudged best. Arushi another student operated the power-point for the DPS team. As many as 44 debaters from 22 schools had participated in the debate. After the first round about 10 teams debated the topic in the finals. Delhi Public School won the top position while Springdales School and Bright Line School took the 2nd and 3rd position. Amongst participating schools including Delhi Public School were Spring Dale Senior School, Amritsar; DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar; Cambridge International School, Amritsar; Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Majitha Road, Bye Pass; The Millennium School, Amritsar; Bright Line School, Amritsar; Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Public School, Amritsar etc.
