Amritsar, July 30 (Punjab Post Bureau) – With an aim to promote Philately as educational hobby among students, a seminar on the same was conducted at DAV Public School Lawrence Road recently by Sr. Sudpt. of Post Offices Amritsar Division. Kulwant Singh Kharbanda Supdt of Posts along with Mrs. Niharika Mehta Incharge Philately Bureau Amritsar Head Post Office were also present.
The seminar was attended by students from Classes VI to IX. The team from GPO Amritsar introduced students to the hobby of stamp collection and showed some of the rare stamps. Through a presentation, Mrs. Niharika engaged the students in a colourful depiction of new and old stamps of India.
At the end of the seminar a Philately Club was set up and the school was made a member to promote the same. Students enthusiastically enrolled for the club and discussed how to maintain a stamp album and how to begin with that. The queries of the students were taken up and they were encouraged to pursue the hobby.
Regional Officer Punjab Zone–A Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar appreciated the efforts of the school for introducing the students to a constructive hobby which will serve as a stress buster also.
Dr. Neera Sharma, Principal of the school thanked the team from GPO Amritsar for taking up the initiative. She encouraged the students to engage themselves in this creative hobby. She added that through this they can educate themselves about different cultures and history of various countries.
