GNDU honoured its Gold Medal winner student in Archery World University Championship

Amritsar, June 10 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University honoured Ms. Priyanshu Kachhap, student of the University who won Gold Medal in Compound Women’s team category in Archery World University Championship held at Mongolia recently with memento and cash award. This special function was organized here today in the committee room of Vice-Chancellor’s office in the presence of Registrar, Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon; Prof. K.S. Kahlon, Dean, Students Welfare, Prof. T.S. Banipal, Director Research; Prof AS Sidhu, Director HRDC, Prof. Jagrup Singh Sekhon, Professor Incharge (Examinations), Dr. H.S. Randhawa, Deputy Director Sports & Head, Dr Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Assistant Director Sports along with coaches and sports persons of the University.

             Prof. Brar while congratulating Miss Kachhap and her coach S. Balraj Singh Virk and sports department of the University said that University is committed to provide essential infrastructure and sports facilities to its students. He said that perhaps we are the best sports Universities of the country, but is matter of concern that we are spending on our sports infrastructure from our own financial resources. He said that we are providing scientific training to our sports personnel so that they could meet the challenges at international level.

            The university itself has made the expenditure of university two archers and one coach for Archery World University Championship. No financial assistance was given by Association of Indian University, New Delhi / Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, GOI, New Delhi.

 

Earlier, Dr. H.S. Randhawa welcomed the chief guest and other. He also gave the details about the championship and introduced Miss Kachhap. He said that more students of the University would bring laurels the University with their hard work. He also congratulated the archery coach.

 

He said that it is a matter of great pride and honor that Ms. Priyanshu Kachhap, student of the University won Gold Medal in Compound Women’s team category in Archery World University Championship held at Mongolia from 1-5 June, 2016.  India beat Russia by scoring 228 points out of 240 and Russia scored 220 points. Indian team comprised of Priyanshu Kachhap (Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar), Jyoti Surekha (KL University, A.P) and  Swati Dudhwal (Rajasthan University).

She also Participated in World Cup Archery Stage-3, Polland Aug, 2015, World University Games, Gwangju (S.Korea), July 2015. She also won Gold medal in Sr. National and in All India Inter-University Championship in the session 2015-16. Presently she is studying in BBK DAV college for Women, Amritsar.
