DBT sponsored workshop Bio degradable Waste at BBK DAV College Women

Amritsar, 25 Oct (Punjab Post Bureau) – Department of Botany and department of Chemistry of BBK DAV College for Women organized a DBT sponsored workshop by Dr. Adarsh Pal Vig, Associate Professor, department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, GNDU. This workshop was conducted at the dept. of Botanical and environmental sciences, GNDU. In this workshop, Dr. Vig appraised the students about how to make best use of bio degradable waste by converting it into manure through vermin composting. He discussed in detail how earthworms are helpful in creating the hetero genius mixture of decomposing vegetables or food waste, bedding materials and vermicast mixture is an excellent, nutrient rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. This process also reduces the synthesis of harmful gases such as methane and carbondioxide which are produced on decomposition of organic waste.  The students were shown the process practically when they were taken to the vermin composting unit in GNDU. This workshop was of great help to students and they were motivated to manage the organic waste in their surrounding by vermin composting. Dr. Poonam Khullar (H.O.D) Chemsitry dept, Mrs. Rashmi Kalia (H.O.D) Botany dept, Mrs. Pawan, Ms. Neha, Ms. Divya, Ms. Parminder were present on the occasion.
