DAV Public School observes Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day

PPN1101201612Amritsar, Jan 11 (Punjab Post Bureau)- DAV Public School, Lawrence Road observed the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda which falls on 12th January as the National Youth Day. Swami Vivekananda was an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the western world. The students sang devotional songs and read out excerpts from his motivational life and informed the audience about his interest in spirituality from a young age. He had inspired many with his wisdom and knowledge. The students of the school presented a role play highlighting one such incident from his life. Swami ji had always preached to show care and affection to the down trodden and the old. He believed in the power of the youth and emphasised that  the youth of a nation can bring a change in the society if they are educated, compassionate and self – sacrificing. He himself selected ‘Bharat’ over ‘Materialistic West’. S. Gurbinder Singh Bhatti from  the Punjabi faculty of the school informed the students that Swami ji was a voracious reader which had helped his gain wide wisdom. He narrated one incident from his life and apprised them with the power of concentration in life. He quoted Swami ji on the same, Swami ji said , “ Whatever you are  doing, put your whole mind in it . Then you will never miss. In the end they pledged to follow the ideals of Swami ji and paid homage to him by holding candles with a promise to spread awareness against the prevalant social evils.

Regional Director Punjab Zone A , Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra and the Manager of the school Dr. Rajesh Kumar Principal DAV College Amritsar asked the students to be rich in values and ethics and avoid love for material things in life . They asked the students to take inspiration from the life of Swami Vivekananda to lead a fruitful life.

Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of school while addressing the students on this occasion said that  the youth of today had a greater responsibility on their shoulders and they need to be guided  by the ideals of great scholars like Swami Vivekananda. She wished that the light of the candles lit by them may enlighten them spiritually as well as mentally.
